MBA Honors 14 Different Builders at Annual Parade of Homes Dinner
(Waukesha, WI) – August 28, 2003 – With thirty models, twenty-five different builders and three distinct subdivisions featuring homes in three different price ranges, this year’s Parade was the largest ever hosted by the MBA, which made the judging intensely challenging. One judge wrote that “all of the homes that we had the honor of judging were winners in our eyes, but a certain few…exceeded our expectations!” The Metropolitan Builders Association hosted its annual Parade of Homes Awards Dinner on Thursday evening at the Country Inn Hotel & Conference Center. Emceed by Audra Evans of 95.7 WRIT, the dinner featured xx of award winners and over 375 attendees. Awards for landscaping, interior design, and overall excellence were given out in each subdivision.
Hawks Landing
Hawks Landing featured three luxury homes in what has been dubbed the “Million Dollar Subdivision”. Sterling Hasey Company’s “The Glenmoore” model, emerged as the “Overall” winner for the subdivision. It is easy to see why this home captured the judges’ attention. With 6,185 square feet of living space, this four bedroom/four bathroom model features a state-of-the-art home theater, an exercise room, wet bar and a library, along with gorgeous vistas of the lush common space of the conservation subdivision.
James H. Hoffman Builders, Inc. was recognized as the best home inside and out, winning both the Interior and Landscaping categories for the subdivision. The Interior judges agreed that the floor plan for “Family Living 2003” created an easy flow throughout the home. Yet beyond the floor plan, each judge honed in on a different aspect of the home that appealed to them – the dramatic dimensions, the use of natural light and the placement of the home on the lot.
Receiving the highest total number of points for any home in any category in the subdivision, all the Landscape judges noted the quality and creativity of the landscaping for the James Hoffman model. This is truly a distinction because the landscaping of the home is set against the natural beauty of 113 acres of lush woodlands and prairies.
Twin Creeks Subdivision
Fourteen models by fourteen different builders in the Twin Creeks subdivision created some stiff competition. No other subdivision in this year’s Parade featured as many different homes. Despite the variety of models, “Cobblestone Ranch” by David & Goliath Builders Inc. swept the competition. This 2,544 square foot arts and crafts style home pulled a Parade hat trick to win the Grand Award in the Overall, Interior and Landscaping categories. The model features a gourmet kitchen, a dramatic great room with two-story windows and a fireplace.
In the Overall category Demlang Builders, Inc. won the Honor Award for “The Grand Haven” model, Moore Designs earned the Award of Distinction for their “Heartland Manor” and Joseph Douglas Homes took home a Merit recognition for their model “Aberdeen”.
Rounding out the Interior category, Moore Designs received the Honor Award and Kettle Creek Homes won the Award of Distinction for their model “The Aubrey”.
In the Landscape category, Coventry Homes Ltd. was awarded the Honor Award for the “Presidio II” and Demlang Builders, Inc. walked away with the Award of Distinction.
Western Hills
Western Hills showcased 13 models created by 11 builders. Kaerek Homes, Inc. won the Grand Award in the Overall category for the “Jefferson IV Special Edition” model. The vaulted ceilings, fireplace and kitchen ready for entertaining in this 2,205 square foot split-ranch design impressed the judges. This exceptional model is a special edition of one of Kaerek Homes’ most popular models.
Wolter Brothers received the second most prestigious recognition in the Overall category with the Honor Award for “Prairieview”. However, “Prairieview” was honored with two higher distinctions: the Grand Award in both the Interior and Landscape categories. Designed with a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright’s distinct design features, this Mission style ranch home is open and dramatic. One judge commented on the “wonderful symmetry” of the home, while another noted the “fresh, interesting and unpretentious decorating” and “very nice architectural detailing”.
Also in the Overall Award category the Award of Distinction was earned by Demlang Builders Inc. for their Newport Cape model and the Merit Award was garnered by Badger Home Builders, Inc. for the Karvellington 2004.
Judges for the Interior category awarded G.P.R. Builders the Honor Award for their model “Hampton”. The Award of Distinction for the Interior category went to J. Anthony Homes, Inc. for their multi-level “Fieldhaven” model.
The Landscape judges distinguished Badger Home Builders, Inc. with the Honor Award for landscape design around their model “Karvellington 2004”, and recognized the “Westbury” model by Stonegate Homes, LLC with the Award of Distinction.
Finally, a word about the judges and the judging criteria. The Overall category was judged by Mike and Becky Wissel and Hank Hechimovich, all members of the Fond du Lac and Dodge County Builders Association. Additional judges were members of the Madison Area Builders Association – Phil Simon, Brian McKee and Bob Bouril.
Deb Graupner, Gail Hammernik, Joanelle Jordann Klumb, Nancy Miller, Sheila Semrou and Wendy Schaffer judged the models for the Interior category awards. Judging for the category of Landscaping were Rick Hase, Heather Schuster and William J. Wandsnider.
