Wisconsin Licensing

The building professionals at David & Goliath Builders, DG Remodeling & Avid Homes are licensed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Commerce.

What does that mean?

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce requires all building and remodeling contractors to be licensed. This licensing was designed to protect the consumer. Make sure you are doing business with a contractor that holds valid Wisconsin Licenses. There are two licenses needed in the State of Wisconsin in order to apply and obtain building permits. Make sure you ask to see copies of both of these licenses before you hire a contractor.

Dwelling Contractor

The first license is the Dwelling Contractor Certificate of Financial Responsibility. In order for a new home or remodeling contractor to apply and obtain a building permit they must have their Dwelling Contractor License. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce requires a business to submit a certificate of insurance to prove that they are a legitimate business and hold the proper insurance. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce requires that the contractors supply this information annually to maintain their Dwelling Contractor License.

Dwelling Contractor Qualifier

The second license is the Dwelling Contractor Qualifier. This license is issued to an individual who is either an owner or employee of the company and it is also required for the home building or remodeling contractor to be able to apply and obtain a building permit. This license requires that the individual holding this license to take 12 credit hours of Wisconsin Commerce Approved Classes every 2 years.
